Aggression or Harm Obsession/CompulsionAggression OCD, almost exclusively happens to people who would never carry out their worse fears of hurting anyone.
These people typically have never committed any of the violent or aggressive acts that plague their thoughts.
Obsessions are intrusive thoughts foreign to the nature of the person.
They feel as guilty over their thoughts as someone who has actually committed the acts. To compound the guilt, they fear that on an impulse they will do anything from something vulgar, shocking or embarrassing to hurting or killing someone.
The average person has impulsive random and disturbing thoughts but shrugs it off. But when anxiety comes into play is when it might be labeled as OCD.
To soothe the anxiety, often the aggressive OCD sufferer will:
· Listen to TV, radio and internet news reports to make sure that they haven’t committed a violent crime
· Revisiting places they have been to make sure that nothing hurtful occurred
· Searching for reassurance that they are not capable of acting on their thoughts
· Analyzing invasive thoughts trying to determine if they are something you are capable of
· Trying to block unwanted thoughts
· Keeping their hands in the pockets or holding a surface that will help keep them from performing an unwanted act
· Trying to pray away the unwanted thoughts
Sadly, all the rituals to overcome the invasive thoughts are futile and never ending.
Even by telling the person, "if you were capable of doing these actions, then it wouldn’t bother you to think that you could" wouldn't console them.
