Support groups and forums are popular in part because people benefit from talking with others who have experienced what they have, who can relate to how they are feeling.  I am opening this venue to let people share.

Things you might want to post are experiences, what has and hasn't worked for you, questions, ways of coping, etc.

I have been struggling alot with frequent obsessive/compulsive problems and associated high stress/anxiety.

I have had ocd to some extent since childhood but never has it been this much of a problem. Its interfering in my life more and more and I need to get some help to break through ,somehow, soon. I had an appt. with a naturopath for tomorrow; but cancelled several days ago. Afterwards I felt really bad for canceling, but I had confusion about how helpful it would be and was concerned about the tests and supplements becoming costly.

I went online and researched supplements myself , and am wondering how I might benefit from reschedualing the appt. with the naturopath. I made the mistake in the past of combining St. Johns Wort and 5 HTP. for a long time. I didnt know that the 2 supplements should not be taken together. I was foolish in self prescribing the combo, but the health food store worker never caught the mistake either. I used to get the 2 supplements every month or 2 from the same guy who was also remiss.

I developed a chronic, horrible rash that was all over my arm and underarm. I went off both of the supps along time ago when I finally realized they may be the source of the chronic rash. I immediatly was cleared of the problem soon after I stopped the 2.

I was fortunate that I didnt have even worse reactions. 5htp is never to be taken with an anti-depressant which St. Johns Wort is. Too high of levels of seretonin can become a problem; amongst others .

If I get a good supplement program down myself; what other benefits can I derive from the Dr. visit?

I have already begun 5htp without the St. Johns this time. Can anyone please share what benefits they received from a naturopath and in how many visits?

Cost approx. and was the help lasting or temporal? Thanks so much!

Forgot to comment; I have only taken the 5htp for 2 days this time around. I do think it should be monitored by a Dr. especially to get the right dosage down. I would love to hear healing testimonies of ocd overcomers, what all was helpful even if you are still on the road to freedom. God be with you. Grace be with you!

I agree with your comments. There are several herbs and supplements which migh pose a problem.

B complex and Inositol can cause anxiety.

St. John's wort, 5htp, SAMe, Kava Kava and Noni can cause an interaction with SSRIs. I believe they should be avoided for those with Anxiety and OCD.

Sadly, many Naturopaths are charging outrageous prices, and a naturopath knows no more than a good herbalist. I can say this because I am a naturopath, and the classes are much the same, just less money involved. :o)

If I can be of any help, please let me know. For those with OCD, Panic attacks and Anxiety, I don't charge for consults. I have been there I know what they do to your life and finances. So if I can be of any help, please feel free to contact me.

    Thank you for your post.
